This class is for participants seeking a holistic approach to developing their stage presence. We focus on identifying one's authentic voice and cultivating creative integrity.
All are requested to submit one performance piece (3-5 min or less) to workshop. Special emphasis is placed on balancing content with character and applying strategies for effective rhythm and delivery.
POETRY & LYRIC WRITING
For aspiring poets / MC's seeking special assistance with the development and editing of their literary work.
CRAFTING & CONTEXTUALIZING
CHOREO - POEMS
First coined in 1975 by Poet / Playwright Ntozake Shange, a choreo - poem is a form of dramatic expression that combines poetic text and dance. This course is offered for dancer/choreographers seeking to generate text and writers seeking to incorporate movement into their work.
Artists can create new work or bring in one performance piece (5 min or less) that they would like to workshop. Through a series of prompts, we will explore the sonic and kinetic impulses that exist within the meta-narrative of the work and bring them to the surface.
"MY MOTHER IS AN MC" (special)
Inspired by one of Queen's Hip Hop performance pieces, this workshop is for MC's seeking to enhance their lyric writing skills, content, delivery and performance.
NOTE: Currently ONLY Available for Female Participants aged 13 & up. This class is offered with the intention of inspiring more healthy and dynamic female voices in the international Hip Hop Community.
